Rally & March! Free Mumia Abu-Jamal! Stop Police Terror!

12 Noon, Saturday April 28, 2018
Oscar Grant Plaza, City Hall
14th and Broadway in Oakland, CA
BART: 12th Street & Oakland City Center Station

Save the dates and spread the word! All out April 28 in Oakland! Mumia's April 30 Philadelphia court hearing could open the door to a path for freedom.

Mumia Abu-Jamal should have never spent one day in jail. Mumia's case exposes the race and class bias of the entire capitalist judicial system. The state demands his slow death in prison as retaliation to his defiant resistance to state repression and racial oppression. But Mumia has not been silenced. We stand with Mumia. Mumia's freedom is part of our own struggle for justice and human liberation.

The Fight to Free Mumia Abu-Jamal
A Fight Against Racist U.S. Capitalism

Having finally been properly treated for Hepatitis-C, Mumia is now trying to show that his case was compromised by former Philadelphia District Attorney Ronald Castille, who was a judge of the PA Supreme Court during Mumia's appeals.

Throughout Mumia's appeals, Judge Castille refused to step down or recuse himself from Mumia's appeals, despite his role in prosecuting Mumia. Mumia has won 'discovery' of documents that should demonstrate Judge Castille's role in framing him.

If proven, this could overturn Mumia's negative appeals rulings, and open the case to new examination. But will the court allow this evidence to be brought forth? This is now in question!

This needs to be a mass struggle. Please join us for this effort...

Based of the 2016 Williams v. Pennsylvania U.S. Supreme Court decision Mumia's legal team is filing in Philadelphia on April 24 a petition for a new trial. The Williams decision held that in death penalty cases a state prosecutor, who is later appointed to a state court cannot rule on a decision that she/he was previously a party to. In Mumia's case, state prosecutor Ron Castille, who later became a PA Supreme Court judge, refused to recuse himself on Mumia's appeal.

Since August of 2016, Mumia Abu-Jamal and other Inmates at the State Correctional Facility in Mahanoy, Pennsylvania, have been plagued with unsafe drinking and bath water.

For several months now, inmates have complained about brown, oily water in both the showers and the faucets of their cells. This has been an on-and-off problem from August 2016 to this very day. One of the inmates at SCI Mahonoy, Lorenzo Cat Johnson, when asked of the matter, stated that one week the water seems good and another week, when run, the water seems to go from the color gray to the color brown.

As recently as last week in a conversation with MOVE Political Prisoner Edward Africa, Eddie was asked what he did for water and he stated that he obtained his water from a hot water filter that was on his cellblock. So other than the alternative to obtain a little water from a hot water filter, men are being forced to shower and wash in brown water. Eddie stated that the only time inmates can get bottled water is when they are on a visit in the visiting room. All the while, prison staff are being provided bottled water at SCI Mahanoy and are being told not to drink the water because it's unsafe.

Mumia Abu-Jamal, who is suffering from a very serious skin condition due to Hepatitis C, is required to take specialized baths in the prison infirmary, but has not been able to take these baths due to the water hazard. Grievances have been filed on this matter, but to no avail--the water situation has not been resolved.

On March 1, 2017, we are calling for a National Day of Action aimed at both Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Department of Corrections Secretary John Wetzel.

The power is in the hands of the people; the only way to make these officials respond is through massive public pressure, so we are upping the ante.

From 9 am to 12 noon, we are calling on people to call, fax, and tweet the office of Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf.

(F) (717) 772-8284

From 1 to 3 pm, we are calling on people to call, email, and tweet Department of Corrections Secretary John Wetzel.

(P) (717) 728-2573
(Twitter) @johnewetzel

These Are the Demands:

(1) Inmates at SCI Mahanoy are provided immediately with clean water both for their bathing and other personal needs.

(2) An environmental Protection Agency testing of the water at both SCI Mahonoy and SCI Frackville.

(3) Bottled water be provided immediately to inmates in all Correctional Facilities across Pennsylvania.

Let's keep the pressure on to get clean water for the men and women across Pennsylvania’s state prisons.

Pack the Philadelphia courtroom on Friday, December 19, 2015!

On Friday, December 18 a Pennsylvania District Court judge will hold an evidentiary hearing, with Mumia Abu-Jamal present via Skype, to determine whether to grant Mumia the presently available medical treatment/cure for his Hepatitis C condition. Mumia's attorney's are also seeking this treatment for an estimated 10,000 Pennsylvania prisoners with the same disease.

Mumia contracted Hep C in 1981 via blood transfusions administered by Philadelphia doctors following his racist shooting on December 9 by Philadelphia police officers.

The federal court judge overruled Pennsylvania state officials who opposed both Mumia's presence in court via Skype and his demand for an evidentiary hearing. The later is expected to last for at least an entire day, if not longer.

This video is a call to action to pack the Philadelphia courtroom on Friday, December 19!

*Innocent political prisoner, government frame-up victim, journalist, author and lifelong fighter for human freedom and dignity, Mumia Abu-Jamal and 10,000 other prisoners have been denied readily available medical treatment to cure Hepatitis C. Mumia contracted Hepatitis C, a liver disease that can remain dormant for decades, when he received a hospital blood transfusions in 1981 following his near death shooting at the hands of Philadelphia police. When PA prison authorities recently rejected Mumia's request for medical treatment, a Pennsylvania judge, in anticipation of Mumia's appeal to PA courts, literally drafted a rejection of this appeal before Mumia's attorneys submitted it!
